Popular Facebook hacking methods

Popular Facebook hacking methods

There are 4 main methods that hackers use in order to Hack Facebook, and these include resetting the password, using a keylogger, phishing and stealing cookies.

1) Password reset

This method requires you to know the Facebook mail of a person, and from here, you need to press Forgotten your password, then insert a mail you have access to. Depending on the situation, you can either make a guess in regards to the password or use the help of a friend that the victim has. You can protect against this by adding a difficult security question and creating a mail account specifically for Facebook that’s not shared with any person.

2) Keyloggers

These are applications that can be installed remotely and they will track all the things you write, then save them into a file. The hacker will then see the content in the file and find the Facebook password. There are also some hardware keyloggers that work in a similar fashion. Protection for these includes installing a password manager, updating the installed software, changing passwords and using a professional firewall to block keyloggers.

3) Phishing

The hacker sends a malicious link via email to the victim, which redirects to a fake/clone Facebook, and once the victim sends the mail and password, the hacker will access the Facebook account. The best way to avoid such an issue is to avoid clicking on any links that seem to be malicious when you receive an email, as these can be fake pages or store malware.

4) Stealing cookies

Cookies are basically website data stored locally, so all the hacker has to do is to access the data stored in the browser via an extension such asFiresheep for Firefox. Once the data is grabbed from the stored cookies, the hacker will have complete access to the whole thing. You can protect against this by enabling security browsing in your browsing, using full-time SSL or a VPN as well as logging in to only those secure Wi-Fi networks.

As you can see, Facebook can be very easy to hack, and there are a variety of methods that hackers can use in order to access your data. All you need to do is to avoid posting so much information on Facebook and be somewhat limited when it comes to sharing data about your Facebook account or even adding data on it as well. Maintaining security at a maximum and making sure that no one but you knows the credential is very important, but removing the cookies from time to time won’t hurt as well.

How to protect yourself against Facebook hackers

As you can see, Facebook does pose a danger when using it, because you might be a target for hackers, and this is why you need to do everything that you can in order to maintain your account clean and hard to hack. Start by avoiding to share your Facebook password with anyone and giving up habit of saving passwords in text or document files. On top of that, you should avoid clicking suspicious attachments or links that you can find in mails and, if possible, you should try to create a secondary mail where Facebook can send you a recovery link in case the account is hacked.
